cannot uninstall or repair 2007

Iplant

I recently installed a new h/d onto my pc; copied all the files and set the
new drive as the boot master. Until then Office 2007 was working fairly
well. Now each program I open tries to re-install itself and then fails. I
cannot remove, repair or re-install...any suggestions?

Did you copy the files while you were running the Windows on your
original hard drive?

The files were just copied over; there still is a copy of all on my original
h/d which I planned to use for additional storage.

Yes, I have XP SP2 installed. All other applications seem to be working as
expected. (media center, WIndows One care and so on)

Hello

I might be off base here but I believe that you cannot copy the Beta of Office or as a matter of fact of any program or OS over to another disk. Ghost will not do it either. If I am wrong then someone please correct my answer

Bye

I am not sure about the Office, but the XP professional did copy over and my
pc now boots from the new h/d; the OS is working as well as it usually
does...faster though with the bigger h/d and ram.

Hi Iplant,

In general, installing Office to the new hard drive (if that's your Windows drive) will be easier/cleaner to deal with as the
registry entries will work :) (Copying just files without the matching registry entries can be what you're running into at this
point and you may need to use the MS Windows Installer Cleanup utility to break the link to the old registry entries then restart
and install Office to the same (or different) folders.

Office activation is tied to hardware configuration and the MS installer is looking at drive references, so things can get a bit odd
if what used to be C:\> is now D:\>

Thanks Bob,

I will try to do this today! I really like the new office 2007 and do find
it quite easy to use. Overall I have found very few issues that could not be
worked around. I hope I can get it off and re-installed!

Hi Bob,
Just an update; I did use the utility as you suggested. I was able then to
remove and re-install Office 2007; it even remembered my last opened
documents. Everything works perfectly! Thank-you; I learned something new
today!

You can't do it that way any more. Everything needs to be reinstalled, not
just copied over.

Thanks JoAnn,

I did manage to resolve the problem using the Windows Installer cleanup
Utility as suggested by Bob. I re-installed the program and everything now
works as it did before. Can't thank you all enough for the help...I knew I
could get the help I needed here.

I recently had a similar problem with office beta trying to re-install itself
when I tried opening certain programs. Partition Magic had screwed up my HD
big time and I lost all my program files so I was unable to re-install some
including office 2007 beta. Anyway, the windows installer cleanup utility is
exactly what I've been looking for...there are many programs out there
claiming they work but that one was the only one that worked for me. Thanks
to you all.
