cannot unlock word (will not allow to open documents)

Everytime I try to open and type in Word, I get an error
message stating,"This modification is not allowed because
the document is locked." However, I have not locked the
document, I simply opened a new one. How can I unlock
word so that I can access files and type? Thanks.

Have you activated Word? On the Help menu, select Activate Product.
