Cannot update InfoPath form library field value via workflow

I'm building a fairly straightforward workflow in SPD that's attached to an
InfoPath form library. When the user completes and submits the form I'd like
to set the status field ('FormStatus')of the form based on some of the other
form values.

When I attempt to use the 'Set Field in Current Item' action I only have the
option of setting one of four stock fields (Content Type, Name, Status,
Title), I'm unable to see any of the fields in my form. The 'FormStatus'
field is a promoted field and has the 'Allow users to edit field value'
option checked in the promoted fields configuration section. Have tried
recreating the workflow from scratch but nothing has worked so far. I can
also modify the value by editing the properties of the list item via the SP
form library, but have yet to find where I can change it via the workflow.

I'm not sure how you created the form library (manually or from within
InfoPath when publishing) or published the form template (to a doc lib, as a
content type, or admin-approved), but if you haven't already done so, you can
try using a site column on the form library and promoting your FormStatus
field to that site column. I wrote about this technique in the following

Also double-check whether you are connecting to the right site in SPD and
attaching the workflow to the right form library.
