Cannot update to 12.1.1

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

After downloading the 12.1.1 Update and going through the installation I get to a window saying something like: "Preparing Office 2008 12.1.1 Update -- executing installer script of Quit Microsoft Applications" and the whole process stops with the blue bar advanced by 1 mm. To exit the installer I have to use Force Quit.
Thanks

A couple of things that usually help:
- repair permissions on your Mac using Disk Utility.
- reboot (it will also ensure that no Office application is still
running)
- eject all external drives you might have that you don;t need (to make
sure that the isntaller doesn't waste time looking for Office in these
locations). That's especially true for network drives. These drives are
much slower to scan and the updater could take hours before actually
installing.
- be patient (I mean really really patient). The isntaller checks for a
lot of things (maybe too many) and can take forever to actually perform
the update,

Many thanks Corentin! I followed your instructions and the update went through smooth in less than a minute. Right afterwards I could update to 12.1.2 just as smooth! Thanks again...
