Cannot view attachment

When someone sends me an attachment from a Macintosh, the
little paperclip icon does not appear next to the message
in my inbox, and when I open the message, it looks like
there are no attachments. I can open the message then go
to File, Save attachments, and I can save them, so I know
the attachments are there. I'm using Outlook Express.
