Can't access HELP file in Word 2000

I'm using Word 2000. Can't access the standard HELP file
via the Help menu in top menu bar, with the "Assistant"
turned off. Also, when trying to access it via
the "Assistant", get as far as the panel of hyperlinks,
but then won't go any further.
Office 2000 has the latest updates. Same problem with all
the Office programs.
Any solution please?
