"Can't access service.lck" error message

I am new to FP so please bear with me.
I have designed several pages on my desktop machine and want to transfer
them to my portable. I copied the pages and associated folders to a CD and
put this in my portable. I can open all the pages with Internet Explorer but,
when I try to open them with FP on my portable I get and error message saying
that the server extensions can't access \PA_web\_vti_pvt\service.lck.
I did a search to try to find this file but came up with nothing. Going back
to my desktop machine I tried to find this same file but again, nothing. I
have the same versions of FP on both machines, all the FP files are the same
on both machines, both machines will open their FP files in IE but only the
desktop will open the pages in FP.
What is service.lck, why does only my portable ask for it, and how do I get
around the problem? Any help gratefully recieved.
Many thanks

Remove all the read only attributes from all folders and files copied from the CD

PS
the best way to transfer a web to a different machine is publish it from a hosted online server

service.lck is a file used by FrontPage, and exists in the _vti*
folders used by the extensions when FrontPage is running with a web
open. Both your machines use the file, but only when a web is open in
FP.

When you copy files from one PC to another via a CD, you make all the
files and folders on the copy Read Only. If a folder is marked Read
Only, then it is impossible for FP to create or access the service.lck
file in that folder.

You must remove all the read only attributes from all the folders and
files in the web, then try again with FrontPage. Open Windows
Explorer on the Laptop and browse to the folder holding the web,
right-click and choose properties.
Clear the Read Only attribute. If you are using Windows XP, you
should choose to do the same to all files and folders in that folder.

When moving a web from one machine to another the best way is to
publish, either directly across a network connection, or via the
internet.

Thanks for the info. I will try removing the read only attribs.
Exactly where is the _vti folder? i have looked at the site on my desktop
machine and I can't find it. The site was developed in FP on this machine.
Maybe the _vti folder only appears when you publish?

In any FrontPage there are several folders with names starting _vti_
You will never see these in FrontPage, and since they are hidden
folders, you may not see them in Windows Explorer, depending on your
Explorer settings.
