Cant apply the 12.1.2 update

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

I have the 12.1.1 update installed omn my MBP - verified by looking at the about entourage pull down. When it gets to the point in the install process that its going to install on a drive it says

"You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.2 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume"
there are only 2 volumes - the MBP HDD and the Time Machine drive.

When i applied the update on my home imac it had some hiccups but it ultimately worked??

Please help

yep, same problem here, i had similar issues with the last update. it seems that any-form of alteration to the officer installation (removing non-uk files etc) can cause issues. I gave up with the last one and did a fresh install of office.

I've found you *must* restart the computer after initial installation,
and after applying each update, for future updaters to work correctly.
This was a really silly move by Microsoft. A restart should not be
required for such a trivial thing!

Restarting clears temporary caches that may interfere with using your
software and to re-enable the hidden Office daemons.

If you didn't quit all Office applications, then you didn't follow
directions and can have a bad install.

Do you not read the other posts? Sorry, but I've explained this so many
times now, I'm loosing patience.

Steps to re-install:

1) Quit all Microsoft applications (Easy way: log out/in with Shift key
down to disable any startup items.)
2) Drag the Microsoft Office 2008 folder to the Trash.
3) Empty Trash.
4) Reinstall Office 2008 from your original installation disk. See details
here:

You forgot:

5) Restart your computer.
6) Run Microsoft Autoupdater. Let it install whatever update it thinks
you need.

Repeat steps 5 and 6 over and over until all updates are installed.

That's on the link above.

I have read through all of the posts. Has anyone else had the repeating message upon the install to quit microsoft sync services? I have turned sync services off in entourage, imac, ical & address book, turned off all programs, but keep having the message pop up, stopping the installation process.

I have looked everywhere for a clue - can anyone help me with this?

Did you log out/in with shift key down? Then run the installer.

...all of which can and should be done *without* a restart.

I always quit Office applications when asked to do so.

I hate to reply like this but I had no problems with the update and didn't
have to restart my MAC. I wonder what causes some to have problems?

You might be safe this time, but the next time you could have trouble. Be
safe and restart.

I own MS Office, but my web access is limited.

Is there any way to buy the MS Office disk with v12.1.2 on it?

I don't think so. You could manually download the updates at some other
location though and take them back to your computer to install them,

I have been a Microsoft Office user since the beginning. Some may remember sitting with a stack of 30 floppy disks installing the package one-by-one over several hours. Pain and patience!

Today I am leaving Microsoft Office after many years. The catalyst is my installation of the 12.1.2 upgrade and the booting and install problems that it involved. Yes, I could struggle through and re-install and fix this but enough is enough -- I have other options and I'm making the move.

Goodbye Office.
