Can't change table shading

I can't change the table shading in individual cells or even for the whole table. I've tried both by using the Borders & Shading in the Formatting Palette and by selecting Table Properties, then Borders & Shading. I can select the shading options, but when I click OK nothing changes.

Make sure you have the cell(s) correctly selected. When you choose to apply
a shading, the word "cell" should appear in the Apply-To box.

Hope this helps

I double-checked based on your suggestion. The cells are correctly selected (the ones I want to change are highlighted completely--there's no text in them--and the cell box is checked under the Borders & Shading menu). It seems like the program refuses to change from the 'No Fill' setting.

Just check to make sure you do not have a Table Style applied. If you have,
that will override direct formatting of the cell backgrounds.

Set the Table to Table Normal style to remove the style.

Cheers
