Cant change the "view"

My daughter was doing a project for school last night and somehow the
"view" has changes to what I beleive is "outline or something like
that. In the image below it looks great but on our screen that poem
has symbols all over it. Paragraph signe, enter signs, dots between
words etc. We can't turn it off and do not know how it got on. Every
document now has this format / view. We tried changing all of the
"views" but nothing seems to work. It prints fine but is very hard to
work on. The view "reading outline" does make it go away, but makes it
two pages. Can you help?

Thanks,

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.

It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman

Phenomenal woman
That's me.

There's a button with a "pilcrow" ( paragraph break, looks like a backwards
P ) on the "Standard" toolbar. It's a toggle - click it once and the
formatting characters will disappear, click again and they'll return.
