Can't create file: FAX.TIF

MH

I keep getting this error message when I try to open faxes that come down
over our server. Here is the entire message.

Can't create file: FAX.TIF. Right click the folder you want to create the
file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your
permissions for the folder.

I have checked the properties for the Inbox and for the Office Document
Imaging and all of that is fine.

We were able to open faxes fine, then one day a Smiley bar appeared in
Outlook and then we were not able to open the faxes anymore. Also, I have
removed Outlook and reinstalled. I have run an Adaware program to remove all
of the smiley program.

Help please.

Specify the fax software you are using, your Outlook version and the file
association for TIF files. Specify how you are routing faxes to Outlook.

I am using the fax manager thru the server management. We are running
Windows Server 2000 and the Outlook is Outlook 2003. Once the fax is created
and sent to someone's email, then it is forwarded to the correct recipient.
This first happened when the faxes were being sent to the problem computer
directly. Then we moved the faxes to another email and the new computer
could open them fine. However, if I forward an email to the problem
computer, it still can not open it.

I don't know what Fax manager is. Please explain. Explain how you
accomplished routing to Outlook since most current fax products do not
support this. You may be in the wrong group here. You left out the File
association for TIF.

Perhaps it's as simple as his Temporary Internet Files being out of room.

Here are the steps we follow to set up the faxes to be routed to an email
address.

Log into server
Open Server Management
Click on Faxes
Use wizard to set up faxes
Setup name, address & phone number
Setup modem
Setup email address, fax archieve file, other storage
A recap shows our choices and we confirm

Provider is Microsoft Modem Device Provider
Device is US Robotics 56K Modem
Incoming Routing is Global Methods

Fax archieve file is E:/fax/archieve
other storage is our web

Permissions (full access) are given for both E:/fax and E:/fax/archieve

I am not sure what other information you may need, but if you can tell me
where to look, I will be glad to pass it on.

Thank you for your help.

That still doesn't tell me what the fax software is, but hopefully it won't
matter. This is not an Outlook issue and is most likely not a Fax issue
either.

Just do some routine maintenance. Make sure the default viewer for TIF files
is reset to the one normally used for your operating system. Delete all
temporary files and Temporary Internet Files from your partition.

I have the same problem however, this did not occur as a result of any spy
ware. I had it on a client for which I finally deleted the user name
altogether and reassigned it. This time, however it is not going to be so
convenient as it is not a new user. In searching the data base I found
instructions for resolving this issue with Outlook 2002 by going into the
registry. Specifically, Article 305982. Unfortunately, it is not applicable
with Outlook 2003. I have tried all the suggestions listed here. I suppose I
will have to pay for tech support but if anyone has any other thoughts I
would be grateful!

That article would not apply at all.
Specify your file association for TIF files. Specify what actions produce
that error message.
