Can't do anything to my site

Can't publish anything to my site. It's a new site but the hosts tells me everything is working fine and he can get right in. Says extensions are working and permission is fine. I can log in fine and view the three folders that are at my remote web site but thats it. I've created the site on my computer and everything works fine there. I just can't publish anything. I get a server error message saying it can't write to whatever file I try publishing or it can't create any folders when I try and publish them. Using FP 2003 with windows XP.

No, when I go to my site it tells me I'm not authorized to view site. In FP I can see the folders that are there. (_private and images folders which are empty and W3SVC36 which has two log files in it)

W

wp

Are you viewing your site using fp remote web site or some other way?
What 3 folders do you see?

Check your remote site properties.
Make sure you are publishing through frontpage or sharepoint services.
Ensure ytour publish destination is correct (http://www.yoursite.com)
Some hosts omit the www.
If you've already uploaded something with ftp, your FP extionsions might need to be reinstalled.

L

ldm312

Using FP remote web site I can see the folders that are there. (_private and images folders which are empty and W3SVC36 which has two log files in it) When I try to go to my web site online I get a message telling me I'm not authorized to view it. (So does everybody else)

W

wp

Yes, no one can view it because there is no index or default htm file, and will generate an error. If you've checked everything, try recalculating your site, sometimes that helps.

L

ldm312

Did the recalculate already, but i just did it again and still not working. there is no default or index file at my site because I haven't published it yet.

T

Well, without the appropriate default page, you will continue getting the
folder directories.

Is the web site on your computer contained within a folder that has a blue globe icon on it??

In other words, lets say the name of your web is "mywebsite." If you open C:\My Documents\My Webs
using Windows Explorer do you see a folder named mywebsite that has a blue globe icon on it??

Ok so how do I get a default or index page to my site? ... And yes my folder does have a blue globe on it. Is it suppose too?

S

Steve Easton

Yes it's supposed to have a blue globe on it. This indicates that the folder contains a web.

Open the folder in FrontPage ( launch FrontPage, click Open Site or Open Web) Browse to the folder
with the blue globe and open it. Click View > Folders on the Toolbar. In the list of files /
folders that shows you should see a file named index.htm if you don't or if you have named your
"main or home" page with another name, right click it and rename it index.htm When FrontPage
prompts you about links click OK. Then when it's done, right click index.htm and select "Set as
homepage."
When its done, Click File > Publish Site ( or web )
