Can't download service packs & can't open some docs

I have the Student/teacher edition of Office for Mac 2008. All of a sudden I'm having trouble opening email attachments of documents made in an earlier version of Word for Mac. I thought maybe the service packs would help, but when I download them, the message is that the software isn't available on my computer for the service pack. What do I do?

Are you saying the problem exists in a pre 12.2.0 version of Office?

Are the attachments fully downloaded. This might have been accidentally
changed so you are trying to open a partial download.

After applying 12.2.0 (SP2), there is an issue opening. See this article on

Rolling back to 12.1.9 is the easiest option.

I have no idea how to "roll back" to 12.1.9. I'm wondering if I'd be better to jsut try to reload my Office for Mac 2008, Student edition.

Any advice is welcomed. :)

If you have a backup copy of the Office for Mac folder in Applications you
can simply drag it back and replace 12.2.0.

If you do not have a backup then you will need to re-install Office then
update to SP1 then to 12.1.9. You will need to manually download the 12.1.9
updater since the MAU will only find the combo 12.2.0.

I would expect a fix for this should be forthcoming, but this is only my
speculation.
