I received my new MS Office 2003 Professional yesterday and loaded it on my
desktop. I was previously running an earlier version of MS Office
Professional that was pre-installed when I bought the system from Dell.

After completeing the install and activiting MS Office, I used the update
option and went to the MS Office Update page which told me there were 2
updates availble: Office Service Pack 2 and an Outlook 2003 Junk Email
Filter. When I clicked the "Agree and Install" button, I got that nasty
"bloop" sound which tells you that there's a problem. Nothing happened.

I checked the knowledge base and found entry 295823 which suggested I
download and run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to remove all versions
of MS Office and any related files. I did so and then reinstalled MS Office
Pro 2003 per the KB articles instructions.

I still cannot down the recommended updates BUT I can download templates
from Microsoft. Any thoughts? I'm getting frustrated.

Hi,

Just a thought, the "bloop" sound may be coming from the IE's "pop up window
blocker" giving you a warning that the pop-up window has been blocked.

Look at the line below IE's "address" bar and see if there is an
"information bar" telling you that a pop-up window has been blocked - which
is MS ActiveX and you need to install it before you can use Office Update.

Hope that helps.
