Can't find contacts after crash restore

M

Mike Fox

Had a hard drive crash on C: and am now trying to restore everything.
Got Outlook restored. I have my *.pst file on a separate hard drive
(thanks heavens), and I got Outlook to default to it correctly. I
can find all my stored correspondence and contacts in Outlook;
however, when in new email and when I click on the "To", I get an
error window saying; "Address list could not be displayed. Contacts
folder could not be opened."

Could some one please tell me where to find the info on how to direct
the "To" link to the Contacts Folder?

I'm running WinXP Pro with Office XP Pro.

Thanks

Mike

Right click on your contacts folder, go to properties, Outlook Address Book,
and tick the box. If it's grayed out, you need to add the Outlook Address
Book service to your mail profile - tools | e-mail accounts | view or change
existing directories.... next. Do you see Outlook Address Book in there? If
not, choose Add, Additional Address Books, and pick Outlook Address
Book...add it.

That helped a lot--sort of! I can now find my 'contacts' after a bit
of work.

After I click on the "To" link, the same error window pops up. When I
click OK, the "Select Names" box comes up--empty while showing
"Contacts" in the top left pull down menu . When I click on the pull
down, 3 items appear: 1. Outlook Addresses, 2. Contacts, and 3.
Contacts. When I click on numbers 1 or 2, the lower left 'list' box
is empty. When I click on 3, all my addresses are there.

Is there a way to delete the #2 empty 'Contacts"?

Thank you-

Mike

Edit the Oulook Address Book in tools | email accounts....remove everything
in there if you aren't sure which is the "ghost" or not. Then say OK, and
re-set the "use contacts as outlook address book" on your desired contacts
folder.

That did it. Deleted 'contacts' and then added it back in.

Thanks for the help.
