Can't find data source problem

We have 3 computers at work on which we use Word 2000 Mailmerge to create mailing labels. The data source is a text file held on the respective computers local drive. When I select the data source in the mailmerge helper on two of the computers I am able to select the text file as the data source and print the lables with no problems. But when I select the data text file as a data source on one of the computers I get "Data source cannot be opened"

I have tried deleting and recreating the text file but problem still there. I even tried copying the text file from on of the computers that works but this particular computer still won't open it. If I open the text file as a file on that computer Word will open itm it just won't open it as a data source for a mail merge

I'm stumped, anyone any ideas what might be the cause?

It may be that Word is using ODBC to connect to the data source on two of
these machines but not the other (or vice versa). However, it isn't
particularly easy to tell exactly what is set up. If you change the file
extension from .txt (or whatever it is) to .dat (say), Word should try to
open the file without using ODBC, which may give you a bit more info.
