Cant follow hyperlinks in email

I have been having some issues with my outlook 2003. All of the sudden when
now when I try to click a link in any email i get no matter if its in my
inbox or any other folder, it will bring open a window that has me browsing
for a executable file.
I am not sure why it does this. It is not any security settings in my
firewall or email filter. And i cant find any settings or configuration in
outlook that will change it.
I have outlook 2003. It started doing this about 2 months ago.

So, browse to your Internet browser executable.

if i browse for IE ex. it will only bring open IE and not follow the link. It
will just bring open my home page (google). Its like instead of trying to
open a link it is only asking what program am i try to run.

RIght. And after you tell it what browser to use, it should be corrected.

See if something here helps: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=821692

What's in the URL field when IE opens? Have you tried resetting IE?
(Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings in IE6 and
Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset in IE7.)

Hi,
I'm having the same problem - it doesn't matter which link I click on it
just takes me to my home page in Internet Explorer. I have tried resetting
IE to no avail - any more ideas - I have been hunting for information on this
one all day.

What version of Windows do you use?

Use Start>Set Program Access and Defaults to make sure IE is your default
browser. Use Control Panel's Folder Options applet to make sure the Open
action definition for the "URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol" file type is
correct.

Please excuse my ignorance but what exactly should it say in the Open
action definition for the "URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol" file type??
Incidently my links for Incredimail work just fine.

I have the exact same issue which I started the topic 'Locate Link Browser
screen pops after clicking a HTML link in Outlook' for.

I have tried the same steps as described in this issue with no result.

I actually have 2 machines on the same level of patches for XP SP2 and
Office and only 1 has the issue.

I found last night that there is a key on the problem machine that stores
the location of the Internet Browser that Outlook uses called
InternetBrowserPath, located under:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Preferences\InternetBrowserPath

When I remove the key or the value then Outlook pops the 'Locate Link
Browser screen'

On another machine where I do not have the problem this key does not exist.

Both machines are running XP SP2 and Outlook and have ALL the latest
Microsoft XP and Office fixes applied that it could find.

So why has one machine this key and the other not? Furthermore what causes
the grief that clicking an URL does only fire a IE window with the assigned
HomePage (im my case 'about:blank')?

It looks like there is an association broken between the launch of IE and
passing the URL information.

Can this be related to DDE?

I have

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome

in the "Application used to perform action" field, "Use DDE" checked,

"%1",,-1,0,,,,

in the "DDE Message" field, "IExplore" in the "Application" field, and
"WWW_OpenURL" in the "Topic" field.
Incidently my links for Incredimail work just fine.

So?

I had the same issue. I just reimaged my machine and uninstalled firefox afterwords. Then the issues started. I found the internetbrowserpath in the registery and changed that to the IE path, but it would only open IE, not go to the actual like.

I then changed my "URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol" to match yours (above), and now it opens two browsers...one with the link and one that goes to my homepage.
