can't get a clean installation of PS 2003 to work properly (DSN issues)

Hi everyone

After having fought this for a while I thought I'd post here, see if
you people could give me a few hints.

I'm putting together a Project Server 2003 demo environment on a
virtual machine, and decided to start anew (from the OS up) after
wrestling a badly hacked-together demo for some time.

So, I created a new VM and installed the OS, SQL Server w/ AS (SP3,
iirc), Sharepoint Services 2.0 (server farm install, so it wouldn't
leave MSDE behind) and Project Server.

Everything appears to work fine, Project Web Access sees Sharepoint
just fine and all, but opening the Projects or Resources items I get
either the Home page again (Projects) or an error to the effect that
something's wrong with the DSNs (I don't have the text handy).

I checked the ODBC Data Sources panel and the PC11DSN is there and a
test connection works fine. Also ran Component Checker to check the
MDAC version and it says there is more than one version installed (!),
although it only mentions 2.71 (iirc) specifically.

Anyway, I'll appreciate any and all comments or suggestions you might
come up with. I'm really at a loss here

Thanks a lot in advance, best

Damián

Repost the question when you have the error text handy if you don't get an
immediate response to your post.

Thanks for your answer Gary.

I've fired up the VM, here's the error text

'An error occurred while trying to access the resources stored on the
database. Either there are too many resources, or the Project Server
may not have the correct DSN configuration. Contact the system
administrator. '

Bad news is, I'm supposed to be the system administrator for this one
;). Anyway, I get the above message when I click on the Resources
link.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but about the 'there are too many
resources', well.. there are none. The DB is empty.

Thanks again, best

Damián
