can't get display template help to work

I downloaded a template from the internet and when I use it it makes large
continuous sections that are blank. It cuts off my table at inconvenient
places and I want to display template help so I can find out how to fix the
problem. I followed all the steps tools options general service options
online content show template help and nothing happened
