Can't get hit counter to reset

D

Dougtmerrill

I am trying to install a hit counter, following instructions on
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825532. All goes
well until I get to "How to Save and Preview the Page". I save the file as
CounterText.asp, then click on Preview in browser, then click "Microsoft
Internet Explorer 6.0". I get a page with HTML text on it, not exactly what
I expected. Then when I go to the next step "How to Reset the Hit Counter", I
find that my reset counter has become inactivated (i. e., not at zero as
initially set). As a consequence I the hit count remainswhere it was when
initailly selected.

I am not running this operation on a web server, but my own home computer.
Could that be the problem? (see Step 1 in "How to Create a page and add the
hit counter).

The hit counter only works when published to a server with FrontPage
Extensions installed.

Or in IIS on your local machine, with FrontPage Extensions installed.

IIS requires Windows 2000 PRO or Windows XP Pro.
