Are Calendar events checked to sync in Entourage Preferences? Have you tried
combine?

Entourage will only sync to the Entourage calendar in iCal.

yes, i have entourage prefs set to sync contacts and events. more specifically should they be set to "combine" or "delete"? i don't mean to sound like an idiot, but you've pointed me to the following point:

Even though Entourage supports multiple calendars and numerous categories, iCal only supports multiple calendars and does not understand categories. Because of this limitation, Entourage cannot sync categories with iCal and will sync the default calendar to a calendar called "Entourage" in iCal. In order for your iCal entries to show up in Entourage, they have to be in the "Entourage" calendar in iCal. Try assigning one of your entries in iCal to it, and you should see it show up in Entourage as well.

"Entourage" does show up in my ical events. when you suggest assigning one of my entries in ical to it, do you mean change the color of the event, eg: "personal"? or do you mean opening any event within the calendar and changing it?

thanks

"Entourage" does show up in my ical events. when you suggest assigning one of
my entries in ical to it, do you mean change the color of the event, eg:
"personal"? or do you mean opening any event within the calendar and changing
it?

You need to copy the events to the Entourage calendar.

To move an event to a different calendar:

Double-click the event. If necessary, click Edit to open the event editor.
Choose a calendar from the ³calendar² pop-up menu.

Drag the event from the main calendar view to a new calendar in the
Calendars list.

Hold down the Shift key to select multiple events. Then Control-click a
selected event and choose a calendar from the shortcut menu.

Does this help?

i'm obviously an idiot because none of your instructions are clear to me. when you say double click and then drag the event from the main calendar view to a new calendar in the calendars list, do you mean in ical? and if so, do i create one calendar for all events in ical? and what should it be called? how will this get the calendar to sync to entourage?

do have entourage set to combine info at the moment.

The instructions are copied from Apple Help.

In iCal, you select the events to move to another calendar.

Yes

and if so, do i
create one calendar for all events in ical? and what should it be called?

Anything you want synced to iCal must be in the Entourage iCal calendar. Did
Entourage make this calendar for you?
how will this get the calendar to sync to entourage?

When Sync Services is enabled in Entourage preferences, it will sync to the
Entourage calendar in iCal.

Thanks for you patience with this. Now I see the problem. The calendar was created originally in Outlook. When I went back to Mac last year my data was transferred to ical. I set my Entourage prefs and Address Book came into Entourage but not ical.

So if I get you clearly, you're saying the calendar has to be created in Entourage and then it syncs over to ical?? Not the other way around?

I did change the colors of some items to match Entourage in ical, but all that did was make all my events the same color. I need events distinguished by color like in ical. Any way to fix this?

In addition, on some of the repeating events the times were incorrect on some....

thanks. carol

You can also export your stuff from iCal. Then set Entourage to sync with
iCal and then import the original stuff back in. Worked for me.

For calendar and task events to sync to and from Entourage the must be
in an iCal calendar called Entourage. If you create an iCal calendar
called Entourage and then create an iCal entry and assign it to the
Entourage cal it will sync to Entourage. The problem with this is if
you have a lot of iCal entries they all need to assigned to Entourage.
I believe you can do this en masse by just typing a period in the
search bar. You should now get a list of all your ical entries.
Hilight them all and change them to the calendar Entourage. They will
then sync over.

The best way to establish the relationship is of course from Ent. When
you turn on sync in Ent on first write you have Ent overwrite ical.
This creates automatically the cal Entry Entourage and populates ical
with everything in Ent. Then after you do this you go back to Ent
prefs, turn off sync OK then go back in and turn on sync and now
choose combine.

Finally, only have one module enabled for sync at a time. If you have
two or more modules enabled at the same time you will end up with a
real sync mess.

Thanks for all the help people. This really sounds like more trouble than it's worth. At least I have the info should I decide to give it a try.
