Can't get rid of control toolbar

Every time I open a specific document I am working on, the floating
Control Toolbar appears. I can close it for a specific session, but the
next time I open the document it's there again. How do I get rid of this
little pest permanently?

Save the document in .rtf format, close it, then re-open it and save it back
as a Word document. That will remove any macros (or traces of them) that
may have been in the document at some time.
