Can't import CSV File from Windows

Hi.
I need to import a list of names/addresses from a friend's pc to my mac. She sent a .csv file but when I download it from Yahoo it becomes a .csv.xlsx file. (don't know if that's relevant but am including it in case.)

I go through the steps to import the csv file (import text, comma delimited, etc.) but when I click finish it shows that Entourage is populated but there is no info there.

Oh, also, when I tried remapping (since some things appeared that they might be off) it didn't seem to let me do that. (I highlighted from the unmapped column and drug it to the mapped column but the info would snap back to the unmapped column.) I've tried to import the csv file with and without remapping and neither option worked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to have to do this manually if I can help it.

Thanks.

Well that doesn't look like a valid .csv file. You might want to open it
in Excel and save as CSV fom there.

That's a bug in Safari. Try removing '.xlsx' and see if that solves the
problem. We don't want to misidentify a CSV file as an Excel XML file.

You were right about the bug in Safari so I opened it using Firefox and saved it from there with no problem as just a .csv file. However, when I tried to import it, I ended up with the same result as before.

Nice try!

Even though CSV is not specifically mentioned, you can import. In Entourage
select the Import --> Contacts from a text file --> tab delimited file and
navigate to the .csv file.

Import Export CSV File

Those are the exact steps I've been following but am ending up with the result described in the original post.

I suspect that the line ending don;t play well with Entourage (Windows vs
MacOS or UNIX). That's why I suggested saving as through Excel (which would
have solved the extension issue at the same time).
If this still doesn't work, you can open in Excel and save as Tab-delimited
text. That might do the trick,
