Can't import *.wmf files into a word document

S

Stacey

Good day,

I am having a problem importing *.wmf clipart files into a
word (SP3)document.

When I try to put the clipart in I get the following
message: "ERROR! Not a valid embedded object."

Windows does not have a problem with these files, they
open in the default viewer.

As a note, I installed word onto another computer without
SP3 and all the files import flawlessly.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Hi Stacey,

How are you trying to insert a .WMF graphic? The usual methods
would be to use Insert=>Picture from file or Insert=>Picture=>Clipart
as well as pasting in.

You may have hit upon an issue caused by hotfix KB835732. For more info, see
See http://support.microsoft.com/?id=840997.

The published symptoms focus on EMF, but I've heard issues with WMF, too,
after the hotfix.

Hi Bob,

I'm using the standard method, as you indicate, to insert
the files. I haven't tried pasting the image, yet.

Stacey

I can insert .*gif and *.jpg files with no problems.

Hi Tim,

I'm trying to insert the *.wmf files that come with Word.
Have these been created by Adobe? (I doubt it)The problem
only occours AFTER Iapply SP3 to word from the
office.microsoft.com site.

I have not found any more information about this. MS leans on EMFs produced
by Illustrator, but I have a feeling that it's not so much
Illustrator-produced files but that it is files that, for example, supply
some kind of metadata. The SP3 looks for that metadata (again, just for
example ... I'm not saying it's metadata, and I reiterate that I've only
heard that the problem extends to WMF).
