Can't insert charts in Powerpoint

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I've downloaded all updates and I have the full version of Office installed. I can't seem to insert new charts into a presentation. The error message I get is: "Some chart types cannot be combined with other chart types. Select a different chart type." I get this on every chart type I try.

My co-worker, who is also on Mac, running the same system, can on the very same file.

Just a thought as a starting point - Have you repaired disk permissions
since applying any OS X/Office updates? Do so with no programs running & see
if the situation improves. If not specify how you're going about it &
whether the file is a .pptx or a .ppt - might make a difference.

I tried as you said... Disk permissions were repaired, but no difference.

I'm trying to edit a pptx file, created (and also editable) on another Mac.

In addition, I'm noticing that I can't edit any charts: The Excel spreadsheet doesn't show up.
