Can't install after using Trial Version

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I previously used a Trial Version of Mac Office. Before installing the new version, dragged Trial Version folder to Trash. Installed no problem, and even could not find prior versions of Office. However, when I go to open Word it says "Microsoft Office did not install properly". Tells me I need to uninstall the just installed version and re-install. However, when I try to use the built-in uninstaller it says it cannot do that. Suggests maybe it is because I am not logged in as administator. Otherwise no helpful suggestions. HELP!

Hi,

Dragging Office applications to the trash does not uninstall them.

There is a Remove Office application that you an find by doing a
spotlight search for Remove Office.

Run Remove Office and remove all versions of Office you have installed,
and then reinstall from the DVD.

I had the same problem. I actually did the formal Remove Office process. It
now finds no office versions, does a complete installation successfully
allows me to register and everything and when I open word it says Office
hasn't installed properly and starts me through the process all over again.
So I try to go to customer support and it says there is a problem with my
product id number and won't allow me access to tech support. I'm fit to be
tied and have way too much time tied into this. In the meantime, I can't
produce or print a word processed document--help!!!!

An additional suggestion from Diane Ross. Make sure all Office
applications are closed, including Messenger, before doing this. NO
guarantees!

Manually remove these files:

Delete Microsoft Office 2008 settings.plist file:
/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office
2008 settings.plist

Remove all office2008...pkg receipts in /Library/Receipts
If you are running Snow Leopard, remove the com.microsoft....plist files in
this folder:

In the Finder toolbar under Go, paste in this path:
/private/var/db/receipts

Empty the trash.

got it to work. could never get the uninstaller to work > it would either hang or not find any other versions. dragged the office folder to the trash and emptied it, also delete the plist as noted above.

you'll know you're doing it right if it asks you for your ID # during the install process.

good luck - works pretty well and people at work can't tell i am using a Mac

:)

Jim, I am having exactly the same problem

I have just bought office 2008 for mac after finishing with the trial. I hav
uninstalled it by clicking the office remove folder, and tried to re-installe
it again, but the same problem. I cannot open any of the MS packages

I tried to contact MS support, but encountered the same problem, it didn'
recognise by product ID for some reason

How do you delete office manually as you mentioned? I am sorry I don't kno
ho
to delete this manually. What else can I try of this still doesn't work

I am sorry - but this is so urgent, I need to hand some work in very soon, an
need it to work

Thanks a million in advance

Sandy
