I have followed the online instructions
(http://www.princeton.edu/~cavalab/tutorials/public/PostscriptPrinterTutorial.pdf,
and
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HP010464291033.aspx?pid=CH010504491033
) exactly to install the Generic Color PS for commercial printing driver
using the "Add Printer Wizard," and when I get done it displays a dialog box
indicating that it's transfering files, but then a second dialog box opens
and gives me the following message: "Printer driver was not installed.
Operation could not be completed."

I have even uninistalled Microsoft Office, then reinstalled it (twice, the
second time choosing the complete install option) hoping that that would fix
the problem. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this problem and I'm very sad
because I need to save a .pub file as a .ps file and it should be easy!

I have Microsoft Office 2003 and Windows XP. Has anyone else had this
problem? How can I make it so that I can save my file as a .ps?

Did you find MSCOL11.INF driver in the program files?

Can you find this file on your setup disk?

Look at Server Properties under File in the printer folder, delete any reference
to printers you no longer have installed.

There is the Publisher Imagesetter, have you installed it?

Adobe has postscript drivers on their web site.

Mary, Thank you so much for your reply. I'll answer your questions one at a
time, then ask you... what do I do next?
Yes, I found MSCOL11.INF in the program files and I double click on that in
the "have disk" part of the wizard and the name "Generic Color PS for
commercial printing" shows up in the little box.

Yes, I can find the file on the setup disk, but can't reach it from the Add
Printer Wizard (It won't let me find get into D:\P2561407.CAB where it is
located). How can this help me? I tried replacing the file on my hard drive
with this one, but it didn't make it work.

I looked under server properties and only have 3 printers which I want to be
able to use installed. so I didn't delete anything.

I have not installed Publisher Imagesetter. Where can I find that? How do I
install it?

I looked on the Adobe web site and could only find "AdobePS 4.2.6 for
Windows 95 and Windows 98." Will this work for Windows XP, too? They say it
is NOT for Windows NT, but don't say anything about XP.

Again, thanks a lot! I am looking forward to your reply.

What happens when the Generic Color printer shows up, can you continue with the
install?

When you add a printer, have disk, are you browsing to the Office folder,
highlighting the MSCOL11.INF file, open and then okay?

What printers are available to you when you click *generic* in the Add Printer
dialogue?

Mary, Thanks for your reply. Yes, I can continue with the intall. It goes
allof the way to the end and even transfers files--the little box opens and
shows the files transfering. Then at the very last second gives me a second
dialog box that says that it failed, but not why.

Yes, I'm browsing, highlighting MSCOL11.INF, and clicking OK, or whatever it
is that makes that file pop up and then the name of the PS printer driver
appear in the correct box in the wizard.

I looked and I coldn't find *generic* in the add printer dialog box. Where
is that?

I'm having a similar problem, although more generic.

OS is Win XP SP2 with all the latest MS updates. I've updated the BIOS and
drivers from Seanix's website, based on the computers serial number.

Also installed is MS Office XP with updates and *NO* Publisher.

We're on a Novell network. I'm trying to add an IP networked printer. I went
through the regular steps of adding a printer via Novells IPPrint utility
without success. I've tried two different printers this way.

Thinking there might be a problem with Novells IPPrint utility, I've gone
through adding a printer the old fashioned way with the Add New Printer
Wizard.
"Add new Printer"
Local Printer, do not detect PnP Printers.
Add printer from TCP/IP port xx.xxx.xx.x
Select the driver - digitally signed for HP LJ 8000.

I've tried both PCL and PS. I've also tried a non-digitally signed printer
driver. I've also tried Windows Update. I've also tried a different printer
on a different TCP/IP address.

The printers were not shared. I did not instruct the wizard to send a Test
Print job.
The Wizard goes through installing the driver, almost finishes, then
displays the error message "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could
not be completed."
