can't install genuine office 2007 pro

I bought a brand new computer last week running vista 64bit, and I cannot
install a genuine retail version of office 2007 pro with install discs. I
get the error message:Setup cannot find Pror.WW\Office64WW.msi. Browse to a
valid installation source and then click OK.
Of course, when I find this file on the disc, it says "invalid location" or
something similar.
I've also had problems installing device drivers for all of my external
hardware, which also would not install from discs. Also couldn't install
itunes for awhile. All of these I was able to work around with help from the
web. However, this is getting ridiculous. Should I just scrap the pc and
exchange it? I can't reinstall vista because it came without a disc. Any
suggestions for what might be causing my office install problem? Or a
solution that I don't know about for all of my install problems? Thanks

There was a 2007 trial version but I uninstalled it, as recommended by
various forums I found. I also tried the copy the contents of the cd to the
drive trick to no avail.

Uninstall everything that has to do with Office including the Activation Assistant
from your Add\Remove and use the Tool below in case you are not able to. (make sure
the Activation Assistant is also removed)

After removing all of the above then try your install of Office 2007

I've found others having the same problem as you do and here's
possible solution.
If you make a folder in a local drive and copy the contents of the c
to
that local folder and run setup from there do you get the same error?

Replies to this solution has shown that it has worked. I'm not usin
Office myself so haven't been able to confirm it but I see no harm i
trying it.

well same problem, tried everything i can think of, brand new HP desktop
computer with vista, brand new office 2007.

uninstalled the trail version, copied the disk on to the desktop in a
folder, tried to image to drive, went thro the manual remove from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/, the "fix it for me" that failed
saying was wrong version of os or application

im assuming its to do with the old trail software because i did it on the
other brand new computer which i bought at the same time with the same
software and had no problem.

any ideas?
Cheers
Dwayne
