Jonny

I get this error message when I try to load the program on
my computer. What do I do to correct this?

Error message:

The windows installer service could not be accessed. This
can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or if
the window installer is not correctly installed. Contact
your support personnel for assistance.

Thanks,

Jonny

Go into msconfig and make sure there is a check for the windows installer
under the
services tab - then reboot the computer, then install Office.

If the above does not work try the following.

1 Boot to Safe mode command prompt and rename the following files in dll
cache,
msi.dll to msi.old, msiexec.exe to msiexec.old, msihnd.dll to msihnd.old,
You must
remove the attributes first.....attrib -r -s -h <filename>
Path---------C:\WinNT\System32\dllcache, or
C:\Windows\System32\dllcache

2 Rename the follwing files in dll cache, msi.dll to msi.old, msiexec.exe
to
msiexec.old, msihnd.dll to msihnd.old.

3 Rename the same three files in C:\Winnt\system32 or C:\Windows\System32
for
upgrade from 9x/Me

4 Run instmsiw.exe from the Office Cd-Rom, For Office 2000 it is in the
MSI folder
on the Cd.

5 Insert the WinXP Cd When prompted and click retry

5 Run Setup.exe from the office CD-Rom and follow the instuctions for setup.
