Cant install Office 2003 SP3 after Failed attempt

Hi guys,

From the top ...

I wanted to install Office 2003 SP3 as windows update said i should do
it. I kept getting the error message after unpacking the SP3 that
installation could not be finished, I searched for hours on the internet and
found that I needed to clear the registry and disable/enable the LIS with
the LISTool.

After doing this I got a bit further yesterday during the Installation,
Infact after upacking it started to update the SP3 I though great ...then I
fell on this problem of missing INF11N.MSI file. I posted here yesterday and
someone suggested it was coming from Infopath 2003. Today I have uninstalled
infopath 2003 from the system.

Now when I try to run the file "Office2003SP3-KB923618-FullFile-ENU.exe"
I get the following error message ...

The Update has already been applied or is included in an update the has
already been applied.

Does anyone know how I can get around this?

Thanks in advance

Wayne

It is possible that Sp3 has already been applied. When it goes to install it
will install for each product individually. It is very possible that it
installed for the suite but not for the standalone infopath product.

if you are using winxp you can goto add remove programs, find office 2003
and click on the support information link. The version should say 11.0.8173.0
if sp3 has already been applied.

Hi Eric,

I had checked the page

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821549

and used the 2nd method to check individual exe versions and they seem
correct, but my worry is that because the install only went 1/2 way through
before stopping on the missing MSI file, I am not sure it has REALLY
upgraded fully ... seems strange to stop 1/2 way through and install
....cancel and everything is installed.

My guess was that maybe they "update" the exe files & add remove
programs as one of the first bits of code ... and then they install
otherstuff after. Anyway windows aint bugging me to update it anymore so i
guess i will leave it for now until something else happens ... Thanks for
your help.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Like I said.. Office 2003 use a program called Ohotfix inside of the patch
..exe and Ohotfix applies the patch to each product individually. If you got
an error message about a infopath file missing, then infopath is probably the
only product it failed on.

:)
