Can't install Office 2003 SP3 because of missing file proplus.msi.

bill

The installation process asks that I insert XP CD. Took a while to find it
and when I did, the required file was not on there. What should I do?

Go back and check which version of Office and which SP you are trying to
install.
There isn't an SP3 for Office 2003!
Also check which CD it asks for, it should be for Office not Windows!

SP 3 for Office exists.
Proplus.MSI shoud be on the MIcrosoft Office XP (2002) CD.
Someone tricked this by renaming a specific xxxx.dll file to proplus.msi but
i don't remember which .dll.
I would be interested to find out how can you skip this error without
haveing the proplus.msi.

Ever thought of reading the title?
Latest SP for 2003 (as posted) is SP1.

well, regardless of whether there's an sp3 for office 2003, it comes up when
i ask my office 2003 to search for updates. it won't install for lack of
proplus.msi. very frustrating.

This proplus.msi is very elusive, I have tried to find it on Office XP pro,
XP smb and even 2000 but still can't find it and it is stopping me from using
outlook and I get the message: unable to open your default e-mail folders.
The.dll file for information service could not be found. MAPI was unable to
load the information service PSTPRX.DLL . Be sure the service is correctly
installed and configured.

I then get the message to reload proplus.msi which I cannot find???

Any answers please to [email protected]

Thanks

Help! Same problem!

Here is what no one has been answering in all the posts I have read on this
subject on a bunch of tech sites: "Proplus.msi" is NOT on any of the
original Office or Windows install CD's - I have them all! It is NOT on the
hard drive. I have searched all of the above using Windows Exploder, search
for any file with the .msi extension, and a few other ways.

If it is not on the hard drive and it's not on the CD's what the heck do I
do? Word works fine, it's when I go to launch Excel that the PC thinks it
needs to re-install it. I have XP and Office XP Pro. Actually, I'm helping a
friend, but it has become "my" problem now (roll eyes) - you know how it is
when you have technically-challenged friends.

Thanks!!!!!!

Missing file Proplus.msi on my original CDs XP Professional Home Ed. with
Frontpage verson 2002 keeps me from updating further than SP2. Needless to
say, many folks are in the same situation. I paid for XP Professional Home
Ed. and requested that it be installed on new PC prior to Sony Factory
shipping to my home.
The orginial CDs arrived with my new PC from Sony Factory. I've tryed
"kells-korner-xp" site and still no further along. Guess I'll have to live
with no further updates. My orginial Cds have the files: PRORET and OWC10 but
that's it!

Office XP Professional with FrontPage was an Enterprise only version that
was widely pirated almost before it released to manufacturing.

If anyone except for the corporation that you work for provided this
version, it is pirated.

yes most people do probly have a pirated version (known or unknown), but i do
have the Enterprise version with the dics that i got while i was in the
military (the orig disc not copies) and have the same problems. i just
reinstalled xp and just now have the problems. sp3 worked b4 but not now. i
just hope that there is nothing that i really need from that update, like
holidays for 06 and beyond that i don't have now. and microsoft techs can't
figure out what is the problem. to show them i have the discs i used my
webcam to show the box and everything. oh well.

Sometimes you have to look in your add/remove programs section and see
whether you have either an old version of one of the programs still there or
whether the office version has installed twice, once as Office 2003 and once
as Office XP etc. Then you have to uninstall the offending versions.

Find PROPLUS.MSI and OFFICE1.CAB at http://www.billynda.com/.

Download both to the desktop, then open an application such as Excel that is
playing up because of a missing file.

When prompted browse to the appropriate file on the desktop.

Next try to install SP3. It worked for me.

You ARE aware that hosting Microsoft .dlls and other files will get you
reported to MIcrosoft and have your site taken down, right? You better
hurry.
