I had Office 2003 (legal copy) running for a couple years, with latest
updates. I then tried to add/remove features, using the original CD. When
that didn't work, I tried to uninstall the whole Office 2003 via Control
Panel Add/Remove Programs. It said that it completed, the entry no longer
showed up in the A/R Programs list, but the applications were still
available, and still ran. I downloaded and ran the Windows Install Clean Up,
which showed Office 2003, and it ran successfully (?), and the entry no
longer appeared in the WICU list. BUT, the applications still ran. I tried
running the offcln.exe ("Microsoft Office Removal Wizzard") with the
"completely remove" option, from the installation CD, which seemed to run
also. When I tried to delete the "spcommon.dll" file that it said to remove,
it kept coming back.
Every time I tried another option, I tried to reinstall the Office 2003
suite, but it always ended up with the "Sorry for the inconvenience..."
failure message. As a last resort, I booted in Safe mode, removed the
folders in Program Files and Shared Program files, ran a registry cleaner,
and tried to install again. Still won't work.
I have the .txt error files, which seem normal until getting to: "Failed to
create download for local caching. Error 0x80070002"
Can anyone help???
