can't install office97 on windows xp home

You give no information for anyone to work with but IF your copy of XP Home
includes Service Pack 2 there are many posts in this newsgroup regarding work
arounds for the problems you might have. Search through the archives and
you'll very likely find the fix you need.

BTW, the ONLY absolute sure fire fix is to purchase a newer version of
Office, like you, I have Office 97 and prefer it to later versions but it
just doesn't play well with Windows XP after Service Pack 2 is installed,
sorry.
