can't install old Microsoft Office onto new computer bearing Windows XP

I've had Microsoft Office on my old Windows 98 setup. I'd
installed it from its' disc in years back but that's
misplaced. I'd like to put it on my new computer which
has Windows XP. I burnt a CD and tried to run the new
computer's "Add Program" but keep hitting walls. I've
tried to run the run program command too. Usually I get
the message "cannot access the required initialization
file\MICROS~2\OFFICE\SETUP\ACMSETUP.EXE". I use Excel and
Word alot but would hate to use the old computer to use
them. Any suggestions please?
Thank you very much and Happy 2004

What version of Office is this? Only Office 97 and above will run
successfully under Windows XP. Office 95 and earlier are not supported.

When you say that you burned the files to a disk, is this the original CD
you burned or only the Office files? Office requires the original disk for
installation. Trying to run the programs when they are not installed will
give you errors everytime.

I burnt the Microsoft Office folder onto my own CD-R disc
to try to put it on the new computer since the original CD
has gone missing, hoping it would have the installation
files somewhere in setup or such. I do have the
registration number and remember the store I bought it at
but that isn't helpful at present. Thanks for your
thoughts.
My best,

Unfortunately, Microsoft no longer has replacement CDs for Office 97
available for shipment to those who have lost or broken their installation
CDs. Your only recourse is to now purchase a full version for your computer
of Office 2003 if you wish to continue using Office as your business
productivity suite.

Oh well, it sounds like I'm proverbially "SOL".
Philosophically at least the programs are functional on
the old computer which isn't dead yet, knock on wood, and
I can go between the two, it'll just be a pain. Thanks
for your help anyway!
