cant make an appointment - get the 'messaging interface returned .

Some calandar items were "unresolved" in ActiveSync so I downloaded the the
newer version. Since then I can no longer create appontments at all in my
Outlook calander and instead I get 'messaging interface returned an unknown
error...."
Any suggestions?
