Cant open a .bmp file

I cant open several .bmp files in 2002 powerpoint it
keeps giving me this error message..Cant open the type of
file that is represented by and then it list my path to
my files??? What is wrong..how to fix...

Why are you trying to "open" them? PowerPoint will not open a BMP file.
You can insert them in a slide, using Insert > Picture > Picture from File.
However, I would recommend that you first use your graphics editing software
to convert them to PNG or JPG.
