Can't open ANY .doc files -HELP

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Since the upgrade to 12.1.7 I can't open any of the thousands of .doc files I have.

I have tried repairing permissions via the disk utility and rebooting.

I have tried to use file>open but this gives me an error "Doc might be in use or is not a word document"

I have tried to double click from the finder but this gives me the "File type is blocked in this version of word" Message

I have tried both of the above again, after logging in while holding the shift key

I have checked the permissions to make sure "open with" is set to word

I am crazy frustrated -

Can anybody help me -- PLEASE!

Try running Word from a different [preferably new] User Account & see what
happens.

While Word isn't running you might also go to User/Documents/Microsoft User
Data/Office 2008 AutoRecovery - delete any files in that folder, then launch
Word & see if you can open any of those same files.

Hi

I have the same problem when since upgrading to 12.1.7, I haven't been able to open all previously generated .doc files.

Do the suggestions above work?

I have Office 2008 and can't open ANY of my older Word.doc files - very annoying.

What to do? Any suggestions, please.

That looks like a known issue of one of the early 2008 versions.
Are you perfectly up to date in 12.1.7??
