Can't open attachments in saved emails with outlook 2007

Luis Aguilar

Hi,

I used to save my important emails in my desktop, so I have easy access to
them, since I migrated to outlook 2007 I can't open the attachments in these
emails. Does any one knows if this is bug? or if it is a know issue?. The
message I get makes no sense "The operation failed. An object could not be
found".

More important is that when I downgrade to 2003, It started to work again.

Thanks and Best regards,
Luis Aguilar

Hi,

I am having exactly the same problem as you and I can't find out how to
recify it. It's realy annoying me. I have checked in the Trust Center in
Outlook to see if everything was allowed but it's all ok. It only happens on
mail that I receive and have saved in, outgoing mail I have saved with
attachments I can open no problem and also when I receive an email in with an
attachment I can open them too.

So please can someone help both Luis and myself. Thanks

Hi Luis,

I have solved my problem.

Went to Tools/Trust Center/Add ons, at the bottom there is a blue arrow
clicked on this and then pressed up. It brought me up a list of 4 items. I
turned them all off (unticked them) and then tried my emails again. The
attachments opened. Then it was trial and error which one was blocked it,
turned them off & on in turn see which one prevented it. Ended up it was the
Symantec Antivirus Protection one.

Hopefully this will help you out too.

As has been said countless times in this newsgroup, do not install the ail
scanning feature of any AV program. It causes more problems that it cures.

I had a similar problem in outlook 2003 - but I did not have Norton installed
and the Add-on Names did not look like they were associated with my Virus
protection.

I disabled all of the add-ons and I was then able to read email attached.

I think it may be a corrupt add-on or one that was written for Outlook
before one of the "Security Updates". I would advise removing them all first
to see if any are causing the problem.

PS: the ability to read was affected by an automated update. I had
previously been able to read emails as attachments, then I was not able to. I
do not know when as I do not typically get forwards in this manner (about 1
every 6 months so ...).

That's a symptom of Google Desktop Search. Do you have that installed?

Outlook 2007 does not allow 94 different attachments to be opened and gives no option to open them anyway, anyhow.
I did find a link to a free, donation only tweak program.
http://www.slovaktech.com/attachmentoptions.htm
You install it / start outlook / tools / options / attachment security & options tab / move file extensions to allow to the right / apply

I don't think this is germane to the OP's issue. The notification box for a
blocked attachment is different than the one the OP posted.
