I am running Word 97. I downloaded Word files created in 2002 (I think) that were attachments to e-mails. Some of the files open perfectly; however, a number of them will not open. I receive an error message that the files are not Word format -- check for doc extension or select open from the file menu. The files have doc extensions and show the word icon in Windows explorer. Is ther any way to get inot these files? I already deleted the e-mails to which they were attached.
