Can't open file from Floppy drive

recently I created a MS WORD document around 29 pages with some pictures in
it, I had to send it to a client via a floppy disk, now when I save the
document from my machine (XP PRO , OFFICE XP 2002) to the floppy and open,
the file opens, without any problems. I also had a PowerPoint presentation
on the same floppy.

However when my client tries to open the file from the same disk on his
machine he can't open the word file whereas the PowerPoint file opens
perfectly. (his machine too has XP Office 2002)

I have tried to use another floppy but get the same error. CANT OPEN FILE
CHECK PERMISSIONS or use Open in the File menu.
why is this happening any clues??
any help would be appreciated.
cheers
zofo

Never, save directly to a floppy.
Save it to your HD and copy it to the disk.
The same goes for opening files, copy to the HD and open it from there.

Word creates temp files and will attempt to use the floppy for this
purpose. Depending on the space required it can cause corruption of the
disk.

I have tried this too but to no avail, the file doesn't copy to the second
computer's hard drive

No, it won't copy, because it was _trashed_ by Word. I hope you've learned:

If you want to be able to use your documents, when working with in Word, act
as if your floppy drive does not exist. (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as
well.)
Don't use Word to:
Open a document on a floppy
Print a document on a floppy
Edit a document on a floppy
Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy)

Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives!

Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth
using Windows.

I know that for some with shared computers (libraries) this is a tough
prescription. All I can recommend for that is to use a brand new formatted
disk each time you save and don't do any editing.

If it won't copy, then it very likely was corrupted. Under such
circumstances, files seldom are salvageable.

In the future, to safeguard your date, open/save only to a hard drive. If
you need file(s) on floppies, copy them to/from only after they've been
fully closed in Word.
