Can't open file

Need some help. I'm trying to open a file in Excel 2000. The file i
approx 800kb and contains a few macros. When I try to open, it asks t
enable/disable macros. I can choose either and the file will not ope
and I get a not responding from the task manager. I can open the fil
on another machine (both are Win 98) I've tried removing an
reinstalling office; run: excel /regserver; saving file as a web wage
This started when the file was sent to me by someone who could no
open it after using for months. I was able to open it once or twic
then never again. I'm trying to get a solution for both of us.

Just guesses...

Try opening in Safe mode.

Close excel
windows start button|Run
excel /safe

Maybe you can recover something that way.

You might be able to recover more by using another program--both xl2002 and
OpenOffice have better reputations for opening files that earlier versions of
excel couldn't.

If the file is really important, there are commercial recovery services. I've
never used it, but you might want to check into:
