Can't open files in any Office application outside of "My Document

I am running Office Professional Edition 2003. When I try to open a file in
any of the Office applications out side of the "defalt" folder, my machine
stalls, I get the message "not responding". When I close I get the messge to
send error to MS & I do. I have update with all of the latest updates. A
friend said something about a Symantec update.

Can anyone shed any light for me

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, left-click

I've never had that happen before. I do have a mapped drive that I only use
occasionally. I guess I have to re-map it each time.
