Can't Open My Sent Word Doc's

Mike

I have MS Office 2003/Word 2003 running on Windows 2000
Pro. When I email a Word document, the recipient cannot
open it. Recipients CAN open an emailed Excel or
Powerpoint doc. Under Word system information
(Word>Help>About MS Word>System Info>Office 2003
Applications>MS Office Word>File Converters), I see under
Word 97-2003 & 6.0/95 - RTF it says "false" under "can open
files". Don't know if this is the problem. If so, I don't
know how to change the "false" to "true".

I'm stuck. Can someone help? Many thanks! Mike

Yes, that's the strange thing about it. Both using Word,
both using the same version, etc. (Word 2003). Any ideas?
Thanks for responding!! Mike

What happens when the recipient tries to open it (messages etc)?

How is the recipient trying to open it?
I've had the *odd* instance where I had to detach (save) the file (using
OE6) and open it from its saved location.
Don't know why, and only happened in Word.

As to the converters information - mine says the same thing.
This sounds like a problem on the recipient's end.

Thanks for responding. Regarding the converter info,
you're correct. I took a look at the settings on a
colleague's computer. Same thing. So, that's not the problem.

My IT guys said it was the Word template, "Normal.dot" file
that has the default settings. I've tried to change it,
etc., but have not been able to do it successfully. Again,
a colleague (who is not having my problem) sent a copy of
his Normal.dot file and I saved and overwrote my Normal.dot
file with his. But the problem persists.

Will get the error info and post it soon. I'm pretty sure
if he tries to open it directly from email or if he saves
it and opens the file, he gets the same result. That is,
an error message saying that he does not have permission.
I'll get the correct info and post it.

Thanks again for helping!!

Mike
