Can't open newsgroups

B

Bruce

There is no News option on customization, and therefore I
cannot create News under Go menu. Any suggestions as to
how I might setup news and newsgroups would be appreciated.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the No button.

You may need to reset the menu or toolbar using Tools, customize.

I am able to create the shortcut on the bar to start the
newsreader. It works a few times then it just starts
explorer and points to a directory on the C: drive. I
uninstalled Outlook, re-installed the whole thing -
created my News button, it worked twice then reverted to
firing up explorer and a directory again. I think it's
time to go back to express!

Did you follow the steps in this message? Apparently not, as it *will* fix
the exact problem you describe - Google for it if you don't trust me. BTW -
Outlook doesn't have a "news reader" it uses Express with a /newsonly
switch... the Go, News command just makes it easier for some people to open
it.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch

Actually, I think it uses the /outnews switch, since OE relabels itself.
I'll have to test.

I did test and if the title bar still says "Outlook Express", then the
/newsonly switch was used. If the title bar says "Microsoft Outlook
Neewsreader", the /outnews switch was used.
