Can't Open Word 2004 Documents from Word

Lynne

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Since downloading Office 2004 update 11.5.1, I can no longer open Word documents from Word. I have to go to Finder and open the document from there. How can I correct this? There is no problem with opening Excel documents from Excel.

Hi Lynne:

There has been a little accident with your Launch Services Database, by the
sounds of it. That's part of OS X.

Please:

1) Apply the latest updates from Apple, if any.

2) Apply the latest updates from Microsoft, if any.

3) Shut down and turn the power off.

4) Restart and run Disk Utility.

5) Run "Repair Permissions".

That should stir things up enough to either fix the problem, or reveal what
it is. The power-off runs some OS X clean-up tasks on re-start.

Hope this helps

Actually repairs to Launch Services you'll need a tool such as Onyx.

Or go in Single user Mode and try AppleJack (if using OSX4.11 or older
don't know if AppleJack has been updated for OS.X.5)

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!

Hi Phillip:

I liked your answer better than mine.

I am fairly sure that it's Launch Services, in which case, Onyx will get
them directly to the fix.

Cheers
