cant open word 2008 for mac document

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

I imported a simple document created by a co-worker using Word 2004. It had a field for an address. I then saved it as a template (library-application support-microsoft-office-user templates-my templates) It has a .dotx extension. When I try and open this document now, the screen flashes it for 1 second then I get an error message, the Word 2008 for Mac screen appears and opens a blank Word document. Cant open it using the Finder/spotlight/ Toolbar. Is this one of those issues with Word 2008 not supporting macros?

Yes, I would say so. A .dotx file can't contain macros in any case.

If the field has any VBA attached to it, then the field will execute when
you open, but the VBA will not be there, so the whole operation will fail at
that point.

I assume that you opened the original document OK? In which case, try
saving it as a .docx (an XML Document) and see if it still opens. If it
does, save from there as a .dotx and it should be OK.

Hope this helps
