Can't open Word docs via windows explorer (Office 07)

If I try opening a doc or docx using explorer, I get a blank instance of
Word. File => Open works properly.

Office 2007 was just uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. It used to
work with this version of Office too - I have no idea what happened. Any
ideas? Thank you.
