Hi

Has anyone been able to help you? I have encountered a similar problem with Word (Office XP). Since re-installing and upgrading XP, I am not able to open documents created earlier with Word. Kindly share any tips with me if you've managed to resolve your proble. Thanks and regards Genghis

Are you running Norton Anti Virus? If so, open NAV and disable the Office
Plug-in option.

I have also encountered this error win Word 2002 when
opening .doc files created/edited using Word 2000. You
get a file path error. The "fix" is to open the file in
word 2000, rename it, and then it will open in Word 2002.
Unfortunately this means you will have to have both Word
2000 and 2002 on your PC, which is just simply asinine but
it works. Microsft please come up with a better solution
to this problem than this!

I have same problem, but am not running NAV ... I DID
once install it, briefly, and then uninstalled it. I
manually went through and deleted as many Norton files as
I could -- no result. Any suggestions on how to get the
rest of NAV out of the system?

If you uninstalled Norton then the DLL for the Office Plug-in may
still be registered.

Search for officeav.dll and if found go to Start/Run and run the
following command:

regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"

In the above example the path for "Officeav.dll" would depend on the
location of the DLL.
