can't open word

In ME, word 2000, I cannot open any WORD document or
create a document because WORD will not open. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled Word. Also, I have uninstalled
and reinstalled WORKS (Includind WORD), but it freezes
up and will not open. I then cannot go to any other
program or the internet without first completely shutting
down and restarting. Once restarted I can go to all other
programs. I once got an error message "Low Resourses".
Any suggestions????

I am getting the same message, in addition I am being

told to remove smartdrv.exe from autoexec.bat to make more
memory. Of course I have no idea how to do this. HELP!
