Can't Paste from the internet :-(

Hope someone can help -

Whe I copy text from the web and paste into either Word or Excel, the
application locks up. I've checked the options in both programs as well as in
my Norton. I don't have this problem when I paste onto my email. Also, the
problem seems much worse when the text contains any type of table.

help??
Thanks in advance~!

Have you tried Paste Special from EDIT Menu? You get many options to
paste such as a Windows Meta File or simply text.

I just tried it and it's better. It still an issue if I need to paste a table
though.

When you copy something from a web page you're actually copying a lot more
than you see: there's usually tons of HTML coding in the background and
define + Control-C catches all of it. When you paste this mass into Word or
Excel, the programs try to render it as best they can. This can take a
l.....o.....n.....g time. Even though they look as if they've locked up,
eventually they'll come around but it can be a very long wait.

In most cases, Paste Special is the only practical way out but, as you say,
that causes problems with tables. In the case of those, I usually capture
just the table and paste that into Excel. Anothere trick is to save the web
page on your own drive and try opening it with Word from there. If you can
do that, it seems to be easier to capture tables.
